Slab ന് 4 ", 5" എന്നീ fixed കനം ഒന്നും ഒരിടത്തും പറയുന്നില്ല. വീടുപണിയുമ്പോൾ നാട്ടുനടപ്പനുസരിച്ച് 4 ഇഞ്ച് കനത്തിൽ ചെയ്തു വന്നിരുന്നു. ഒരു കെട്ടിടത്തിൻ്റെ RCC Slabൻ്റെ കനം നിർണ്ണയിക്കുന്നതിനു് Room ൻ്റെ Size ൽ വരുന്ന Shorter span ൻ്റെ നീളത്തിനനുസരിച്ചുള്ള Span depth ratio യും floor ൽ വരുന്ന Load കളും പരിഗണിച്ചാണ്. വീടു പണിയുമ്പോൾ ഇതൊക്കെ follow ചെയ്യുന്നത് കെട്ടിടത്തിൻ്റെ Stability ഉറപ്പാക്കും.

Design അനുസരിച്ച് ഒരു സാധാരണ roof slab ന് 12.5 cm വേണം . 12.5 cm പറഞ്ഞാലേ ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ( നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടിൽ ) slope ഒക്കെ കൊടുത്ത് 10 cm എങ്കിലും കാണൂ . 8mm Hysd steel ,അനുസരിച്ച് 12.5 ആണ് എൻ്റെ ഓർമ്മയിൽ ഉള്ളത് . ഗൾഫ് രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ചെറിയ സ്പാൻ ഉള്ള സ്ലാബിന് പോലും 2 layer കമ്പിയും , 15 - 20 cm സ്ലാബ് ഘനവുമുണ്ട്. എന്തായാലും രണ്ട് നില പണിയുന്നവർ 15 cm കൊടുത്താൽ, താഴെ ശബ്ദം ഒഴിവാക്കാം .ഇക്കാര്യത്തിൽ final authority , Structural Engineer ക്ക് ആണ് .

now a days usually 12.5cm slab thickness is followed because now a days slab leak is allover this is because we r using covering block for main slab as covering block is placed what happens in steel height also increasing and reduces the top covering of slab this will result in leakage and other problems if slab thickens is 10cm so if u put the slab thickness to 12.5 cm then we will surely get a more covering for slab
