when the soil is loose OR whenthe chances of unequal settlement , Raft / Mat foundation is advised . If the Isolated footing foundation have less gap beteween them it is advisable .The whole portion is excavated and raft like one OR two layer steel is given and column is raised from there. For a height of 2 or 3 storey building it is good.
