ppc is better than opc both in concreting and plastering works. You might wonder that the strength and durability is better in ppc. In opc, chances of cracks/leakage exist due to evaporation of lime content in cement after years causing void spaces in concrete. Also, it can cause faster corrosion of steel reinforcement leading to structural failure. The strength of opc is slightly higher than ppc just after 28 days of concreting. But when we test the strength after about 50 days, ppc gives better compressive strength than opc. Im a govt engineer with masters in Structural engineering. I have tested myself and found the same said above.
POC have higher resistance against alkalis, sulphates and chlorides. PPC consists of Pozzolanic materials 30 percent, includes calcinated clay, volcanic ash ,fly ash etc.
use Ordinary Portland Cement 43 grade or Pozolanic portland cement is better, eventhough the PPC have more final setting time, but its durable than OPC after getting old.
PPC is better. But now a days OPC is generally not available. For plastering If possible you cure for 14 days but a minimum of 7 days are must. if possible spread rags or cartons on plastered surface and keep it wet.
*PPC is used for masonry, plaster, tiling works as initial strength is not a prime factor.*It not only reduces the cost of construction but also helps in improving the quality of structures. Best brand *ultra tech, Ambuja, ACC, Ramco.*
