chapter - 01
Cover Block
Concrete constructions are reinforced with steel bars during construction to increase their strength and longevity. In order to protect the steel reinforcing bars from outside influences such as corrosion, moisture, and chemical assaults, cover blocks play a crucial function in construction.
Cover blocks are tiny pieces of concrete that are positioned between the formwork and reinforcing bars to maintain the required separation from the concrete structure's outside surface. The depth of the cover offered to the reinforcing bars is based on the thickness of the cover block.
Steel reinforcing bars are prone to rusting, which can lead to fractures and, worst-case scenario, the entire structure collapsing. To prevent this disastrous outcome, it is essential to provide the appropriate protective cover for the bars.
