എന്താണു് DPC ( Damp Proof Course)..? തറക്കകത്തു നിറക്കുന്ന മണ്ണിൽ കൂടിയും Masonry foundation & basement ൽ കൂടിയും ഭിത്തിയിലേക്കു വ്യാപിക്കുന്ന ഈർപ്പം ഭിത്തി യെയും finished surface നെയും വികൃതമാക്കുന്നു. ഇതിനെ തടയാൻ RCC Belt അഥവാ Plinth band ഭിത്തി തുടങ്ങുന്നതിനു തൊട്ടു താഴെയായി യഥാസ്ഥാനത്തു തന്നെ Water proofing compound കൂടി ചേർത്ത് cast ചെയ്യുക.Belt എന്ന പേരിൽ Ground level ലോ അതിലും താഴെയോ ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഒരു പക്ഷേ Foundation കുറെ കൂടി stable ആയേക്കാമെങ്കിലും, horizontal force കൾ കൂടി പ്രതിരോധിക്കേണ്ട Plinth band ൻ്റയും rising dampness നെ തടയുന്ന DPC യുടെയും പ്രയോജനമുണ്ടാവില്ല. IS 4326 അനുസരിച്ച് Belt with DPC 3" ( 7.5 cm) to 6 " (15 cm)depth ൽ Load bearing wall ൻ്റെ( ഭിത്തിക്കനം എത്രയോ അത്രയും എന്നാൽ മിനിമം 20Cm) കനത്തിൽ ചെയ്താൽ മതിയാകും. ഓരോ കാറ്റഗറിയിലുമുള്ള കെട്ടിടങ്ങൾക്കു് Span (Room size) അനുസരിച്ചുള്ള Rebar detailing ഉം Code ൽ വ്യക്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. IS Code ൽ പറയുന്ന പോലെ ചെയ്താൽ ഇത് അധിക ചിലവു് വരുന്ന രീതിയിലുള്ള ചിലവേറിയ RCC work ആകുന്നില്ല.
