കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസം Kolo family യിലെ ഒരംഗം Soil test ചെയ്യുന്നതിൻ്റെ ആവശ്യകതയെ കുറിച്ച് അവരുടേതായ question കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി പേജിൽ Post ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ സ്വന്തമായി ഒരു വീടു പണിയാൻ പോകുന്നവർക്ക് കൂടി ഉപകാരപ്രദമായ ഒരു നല്ല ചോദ്യമായി തോന്നിയതുകൊണ്ട് സംശയത്തിനുള്ള മറുപടി Kolo Community യിൽ വിഷയമായി Post ചെയ്യാമെന്നു കരുതി. വീടുവെക്കാനുദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തിൻ്റെ മുകളിലെ ഒരു മീറ്റർ താഴെ ഉള്ള layer ൽ കാണുന്ന സ്വഭാവം തൊട്ടു താഴെയുള്ള layer ൽ കാണണമെന്നില്ല. സർവ്വീസിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ അങ്ങനെയുള്ള നിരവധി Site കളിൽ Test നടന്നുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നപ്പോൾ തന്നെ കൂടുതൽ depth ലേക്ക് Bore ചെയ്യാൻ നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുകയും safe ആയ strata fix ചെയ്യാൻ സഹായകമായിട്ടുമുണ്ട്. ഒരു site ൽ തന്നെ രണ്ടോ മൂന്നോ Bore holes എടുത്ത് Test ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ വ്യത്യസ്തമായ'N ' values കിട്ടാറുണ്ട്. സംശയമുള്ളപ്പോൾ ഊഹം വെച്ച് ആവശ്യത്തിലധികം അളവിൽ foundation ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഉണ്ടാകാവുന്ന നഷ്ടം, Soil Test ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ചിലപ്പോൾ ഒഴിവായി കിട്ടിയേക്കാം. മഴക്കാലത്ത് വെള്ളത്തിൻ്റെ level ൽ (Ground water table) ഉയരുമ്പോൾ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന മാറ്റവും variable SBC ക്ക് കാരണമാകുന്നുണ്ട്. SBC ensure ചെയ്തിട്ട് Foundation തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നതായിരിക്കും ഒരു Stable structure ൻ്റെ നിർമ്മാണത്തിനു മുമ്പായി ചെയ്യേണ്ടത്. " Elevation /face lift നു വേണ്ടി ലക്ഷങ്ങൾ ചിലവാക്കാൻ മടിയില്ലാത്ത മലയാളി Soil test ചെയ്ത് അനുയോജ്യമായ ഫൗണ്ടേഷൻ ശുപാർശചെയ്തുറപ്പാക്കുന്നതിനു മടി കാണിക്കുന്നു." കാരണം മറ്റൊന്നുമല്ല Foundation ആരും കാണുന്നില്ലല്ലോ..??

By conducting the soil report, we could find the behaviour and type of the soil at one-metre intervals and at what depth the water table is present. From the soil report, we could clearly understand at which depth the soil has a good bearing capacity to hold the load of the structure to be constructed. The structural engineer could suggest the most economical foundations based on the soil report.

In order to find out the soil strata , soil test is required . If we find out the type of soil, as per the geotechnical result , the structural engineer can recommend the type of foundation and the depth of foundation etc.
