It turns out that all of the tabloid speculations were accurate. Much conjecture has swirled around Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes in recent months – not about their relationship, but about their real estate. Since early 2021, the duo is said to have been devising a complex scheme to “leave Hollywood” for good. According to reports, the L.A.-based pair has grown tired of the metropolis and wishes to relocate north, maybe to Gosling’s home Ontario, Canada, where they can raise their two children away from the bright lights of Tinseltown.
Records show that the pair did indeed break connections with Los Angeles. Their principal property in Los Feliz for more than a decade, a century-old house, has been sold for roughly $5 million. The purchasers, a married pair, are clearly rich but not well-known.
The Mendes-Gosling Los Feliz transaction was completed secretly and without fanfare, in keeping with their image as one of Hollywood’s most reclusive couples. Because the mansion was never listed for sale, you’ll have to use your imagination to imagine the interiors. The little information we have on the property comes from tax records and a few pieces gleaned from years-old listings deep beneath the internet’s bowels.
The Mediterranean Revival-style home was built in 1926 and lies on an irregularly shaped corner property that spans roughly a third of an acre. The mansion is flanked by some of the tallest hedges and bamboo shoots in town, making it ideal for a high-profile couple seeking seclusion. There’s a three-car attached garage and what seems to be a guest studio or separate office. Several patios and terraces lead down to a swimming pool, which is classically gorgeous in all its rectangular grandeur.
Mendes bought the house in 2008 for around $3.2 million, just before she and Gosling moved there and made it their permanent abode. The house is around 3,900 square feet and contains four bedrooms and four bathrooms.
Gosling, on the other hand, has long had a property in Los Angeles. That home, a midcentury modern hidden up a long road in Studio City, had been empty for several years while he lived in Los Feliz with Mendes. Records show that the former bachelor pad was recently sold to Hollywood costume designer Mark Avery in another completely off-market transaction.
Gosling and Mendes had been seeking to leave Los Angeles for a while; in 2018, they were outbid on an estate in San Marino, California. While it is unknown whether they have successfully secured a Canadian residence, the pair is not homeless. Since 2014, the couple has kept an achingly beautiful vacation home in the small Santa Barbara County town of Carpinteria, roughly two hours drive north of Los Angeles.
