Dry walls start at the foundation. Without a functional DPC, buildings are susceptible to: ​Salt Contamination: Ground salts travel with water and crystallize on surfaces, blowing off plaster. ​Structural Decay: Constant moisture weakens mortar joints and timber frames. ​Health Risks: Damp environments encourage the growth of mold and mildew. ​Pro Tip: When renovating older properties, always check the DPC line (usually located about 150mm above ground level). If it’s bridged by high flower beds or new paving, your "barrier" is effectively useless! The most important layer you’ll never see.
