Using 8mm cement board (brands like VBoard or others) ceiling is a bit too much. Eventually it will sag if the supports are not done enough.
Some brands like Jacwud boards, you can do with 3.5mm / 4mm itself which is more than enough to do ceiling. We have used these boards and from other brands in our projects before. But this one tends to be more stable.
Preferably don't make ceiling too heavy.
