The 'Tharavadu' project involves the reconstruction of our client's ancestral home, with the primary goal of preserving their sentimental attachment to the original residence while infusing a modern touch. To achieve this, we designed the majority of the structure in the traditional Kerala style of architecture, using natural materials such as wood, brick, clay roof tiles, and terracotta jali. By emphasizing the traditional elements, we were able to create a design that seamlessly integrates the old and the new.

Project Name: Seetharaman House
Location: Chennai

The Seetharaman house was designed by Benny Kuriakose and Associates and is a refuge from the unforgiving heat and dismal tones of Chennai city by honouring the client's requirements at every turn. The central objective when designing the house is to create a spacious, bright, pleasant, and easy-to-maintain traditional Kerala style house using natural materials. The house is in the shape of the Tamil alphabet “Pa”, and all the living spaces overlook the green courtyard. Due to proximity to the seaside and to mitigate heat, the sloping roof is built of timber and Mangalore tiles with large overhangs shading the walls.
