After 27 long years of competition, 40-year-old Serena Williams, who prefers the term “evolution” to “retirement,” announced her departure from the sport on Friday. American Tennis player Serena Williams played the last match of her tennis career at the Arthur Ashe Stadium marking the end of an era!!
Serena Williams relocated from a house to Florida, so she can focus on her family, husband Alexis Ohanian and their daughter Olympia. The star wants to spend more time at home in Miami, and her stunning home is the ideal escape.
The tennis star enlisted the help of her sister Venus’ interior design business, V Starr, to build her dream, minimalist house, although she later admitted that her spouse had no say in the design.
“I was moving away from Venus for the first time in my life, so I wanted it to be really meaningful,” Serena explained. Her contemporary home features a hidden karaoke room, a trophy room, an infinity pool, and a wine cellar “the size of a small NYC apartment,” but there is no tennis court, as she “wanted to separate home from work.” Take a look at where the Wimbledon champion resides!
The kitchen features white walls, black cabinets, and a white island unit, as well as a modern, angular dining table attached to the back. Two chairs were placed in front of the table, and the room was accented with gold accents, such as the lights, splashback tiles, and trim on the massive fridge.
Serena captioned the photos, “Love the warmth and style of my European Oak Bespoke wide plank @Hakwood flooring throughout my house designed by @vstarrdesign. Photos by @ryanloco.”
The flooring continued from her kitchen into the dining room, which has seating for eight people. The space is similarly minimalistic, with white walls and cream curtains – but the main attraction is a collection of gold, black, brown, and grey pendant lamps suspended from the ceiling.
The dining room is set off by a collection of pendant lamps by Tom Dixon (brass) and Simon Legald for Normann Copenhagen (glass). Serena Williams created the artwork.
Serena has her own media room, which is hidden behind a bookcase! This photo shows the secret door in the background, next to modern chair sculptures. Inside, there is a stage with musical instruments, a bar, plush velvet seats, and a large neon sign that reads Serenade – ideal for a family karaoke night. V Starr designed the bespoke neon sign for the Sérénade Karaoke room. Phillip Jeffries wallpaper; custom Banquette and Fama chairs in Brentano velvet.
Serena also showed off her art gallery, which used to be the formal living room but now features a bench for admiring the bold artwork, a white and clear piano, and an electric fire.
Olympia has an incredible pink custom-designed castle bed with a built-in slide and a chandelier that allows her to feel like a real-life princess. “She goes down the slide every night while we’re thinking, ‘Man, we shouldn’t have done that, because now at bedtime, she just wants to slide,” Serena explained. She also appears to have a playroom with colourful storage units stuffed with toys.
