Barefoot Architects

Barefoot Architects is a firm led by two young architects, Ar. Nithin Raj and Ar. Basil Kalladi, both of whom graduated from the College of Engineering in Trivandrum, Kerala, a renowned institution for architectural education in the state. They drew inspiration from the Barefoot Doctors of China, who provided basic medical services to rural communities with minimal training. Like the Barefoot Doctors, Barefoot Architects strives to produce architecture that is innovative and accessible to everyone. The firm believes that everyone should have access to quality architecture that enriches their lives. They respond to each project's unique context in their own distinctive way, with design values that are simple yet effective. They prioritize sustainability and functionality in their designs, creating buildings that not only look beautiful but also work efficiently and harmoniously with their surroundings. Through their work, Barefoot Architects aims to make architecture more approachable and relevant to people's daily lives, just as the Barefoot Doctors made healthcare accessible to those who needed it most.
